Perspective of Truth

This massive metal sculpture, by local artist MacRae Wylde, is installed at the Hood River Waterfront. I first noticed it on a visit to Northwave to purchase a face mask earlier this year. I found it very intriguing and returned several times over the summer to photograph it. No matter the angle, like its subject, it really didn’t change. Up close, one can see that it is not slick dark metal. Rather, markings from its construction and blemishes in the metal are apparent and intentional. Perhaps some markings are defacements by the public.

In mid-November I visited the site and found it illuminated by the setting sunlight. I checked out the artist’s website and read his comment, “…Like the concept, Truth the sculpture will last for ever, yet with neglect it will start to rust.” Very provocative and appropriate, especially now.
