I drove down to the Hood River waterfront today and glanced in the direction of the Truth sculpture. My eyes told me that it wasn’t there but my brain demanded confirmation. TRUTH is gone! The artist, MacRae Wylde, may well be refurbishing or redesigning the metal sculpture or another artist may install a work there as part of the art program. The second photo was taken and included in a post over a year ago.
I don’t have information on the removal but I do know that this is recent. I often visit the waterfront and have appreciated its robust presence, especially in these chaotic times. That is why its absence is cause for reflection. We are living through a period of full-on assault on truth for political gain. Doublespeak and alternative facts are employed routinely by those seeking power. No wonder I experienced a visceral reaction to its absence!
